This issue marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Ilmari Tapiovaara, one of the most significant Finnish designers of the 20th century. His most famous designs include the Domus and Mademoiselle chairs.
The obverse design makes impressive use of the three-dimensional nature of metal coins. The commemorative special coin depicts a joint between wooden bars – a characteristic feature of Tapiovaara's designs. The reverse side is identical to that of ordinary two-euro circulation coins. |
