This issue marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of artist, author and cartoonist, Tove Jansson, best known as the author of the Moomin books for children.

This is the third collector coin issued in celebration of Jansson – she was commemorated on her first silver collector coin in 2004 and again in 2014. The only person other than Jansson to have had two or more collector coins minted in their honor is President Urho Kekkonen.

The design of the coin is based on the artist's self-portrait and signature.
