This is the fourth issue in the bi-metallic series featuring buildings from all nine historical provinces of Finland, namely Åland, Tavastia, Karelia, Lapland, Ostrobothnia, Satakunta, Savo, Uusimaa and Finland Proper.
Close to the River Aurajoki rises Finland’s national shrine. Through the centuries, Turku Cathedral has been a vivid part of the city’s skyline and has grown along with the region and its inhabitants.
The church was built in several stages, and architecturally it represents the Romanesque and Gothic styles, among others. The church has been beset by fires and attacks by enemies, but during its more than 700-year history it has time and again risen to its previous glory. The reverse features the historical province´s coat of arms and the face value, 5 EURO.
