In Finland, Savonians are known as friendly folk, easily recognized by their native Finnish dialect and sense of humor. The Savonian provincial coin depicts slash and burn, a type of agriculture used in the province to earn a living in the early Modern Age.
Savonia has been inhabited since the end of the Ice Age. Savonia's remaining Neolithic cave paintings remind us of its long history. Over the course of history, the Savonians developed a distinctive dialect of Finnish that distinguishes them from Finns native to other provinces. Savonia’s natural landscapes are part of Finland's pure and beautiful Lake Country.
