All Belgian euro coins show the effigy of King Albert II encircled by the twelve stars of the European Union, with the royal monogram (capital 'A' and crown) in the inner part of the coin – not in the outer ring as previously – together with the mint marks and the abbreviation of the country name (‘BE’). The Belgian euro coins were designed by Jan Alfons Keustermans.

The cover features the Neolithic Flint Mines at Spiennes, the largest and earliest concentration of ancient mines in Europe. They are remarkable also for the diversity of technological solutions used for extraction.
