This issue celebrates 400 years of trade relations between the Netherlands & Japan.
The beginning of these commercial relations dates back to 1609, when Tokugawa Ieyasu issued an official trade permit to the Netherlands. From the onset, trade between the Netherlands and Japan did not have an economic impact alone. The impact was also felt in many creative fields from architecture, as reflected in the Dutch-style houses, to art, as in Van Gogh's Japanese-inspired paintings.
