Proof Set Heritage was issued between 1997 and 2000 and was an attempt by the Royal Norwegian Mint to direct a coin set toward the Norwegian-American customer. The set contained the same number of coins as the regular proof set, but also came with a sterling silver medal. In addition, the set was delivered in a padded vinyl folder with a booklet detailing an emigration topic each year.

Please be advised that there were two different commemorative 20-krone coins issued in 1999. The first - 20-krone Akershus Fortress - was included in the regular Proof Set Classic, while the second issue - 20-krone Discovery of Vinland 1000 Years - was included in the Proof Set Heritage, with a much smaller issue limit. Because of this smaller issue limit it has become highly sought after among Norwegian collectors.

This set is free of any packaging blemishes such as a matted plastic capsule that were typical for this set. All sets have been re-packaged by the Mint of Norway in 2009.
