tsunami remembered

On December 26, 2009 we remember that it was 5 years ago since the devastating Asian tsunami killed 230,000 people in 12 Indian Ocean nations - one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.

The jewelry on this page was designed by Swedish jewelry designer Linda Gudmundsson. Linda died in the tsunami outside Khao Lak, Thailand together with her daughter, Mira and her father, Göran. Linda´s designer jewelry continues to be manufactured by her mother and sister and is sold for the sole benefit of 600 tsunami orphans at the Ban Bangsak School in Khao Lak.

The stylized heart symbol is used as a worldwide sign for love and affection, and is typically colored red suggesting passion or strong emotion. As such, it continues to be used as a symbolic spiritual, emotional, moral, and intellectual image of the core of a human being both in mythology and religion, and sometimes even as the poetic home of the human soul.
