the sower
It was Oscar Roty who gave the French currency the image of "the Sower" in 1897, when it featured on the 5 Franc, 3 Franc, 1 Franc and 50 centimes coins, and the 5 Franc and 1 Franc coins from 1960. The Sower is currently depicted on the French 10, 20 and 50 euro cent coins, redesigned in the timeless style of Fabienne Courtiade. The Sower is a strong symbol of French currency, and will always convey her message: "I sow and I grow wealthier".
The French Mint (Monnaie de Paris) first issued the silver version of "the Sower" in 2003, and it continues today, even associating the issue with another outstanding symbol of French currency, Marianne. |
