Prince Philip's 90th birthday in 2011 is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a genuinely remarkable life of service and achievement. Few people in Britain are more instantly recognisable than Prince Philip and he has played a key role in some very significant moments, during both the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
A royal consort for longer than anyone else in British history, and a direct descendent of Queen Victoria, Prince Philip has devoted his life to support the Queen and has made an enormous contribution to people in the UK. He commits a large portion of his time to The Duke of Edinburgh Award; celebrated as one of the most successful youth programs this award has helped four million young Britons since it was first established in 1956.
In a link with other 2011 comemmorative coins, HRH Prince Philip became the first president of the WWF and is a Patron of the King James Bible Trust, only a small number of his many achievements.
