With this issue, the Royal Dutch Mint commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Mint's building with coins that have a QR code on them.

A QR code (Quick Response code) is a type of matrix bar code that is designed to be read by smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, a URL, or other data. In this case, scanning the code will bring the owner to the Dutch Mint's website, which promises a "surprise when you get there.

The cornerstone for the building currently housing the Royal Dutch Mint was laid on June 23, 1911, by HRH Wilhelmina of the Netherlands. After extensive renovations were carried out in 2007, the mint building at Muntkade in Utrecht is now a state-of-the-art production facility.

The coin design represents a beautiful contrast between old and new; the architectonic beauty of the historic Mint Building versus the innovative techniques involved in striking coins.
