In honor of the 10th anniversary of the euro as a monetary instrument, Monnaie de Paris is commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Starter Kit.

This kit, made available in 2001, contained €15.24 in euro coins and helped the public become familiar with the new coins before they were launched on January 1, 2002. These kits are still well known and many buyers have kept them intact for collecting purposes.

The obverse features the traditional Sower design created by Oscar Roty in 1898, which has since become a timeless symbol of French currency. The 12 stars around the coin’s edge represent the 12 founding countries of the eurozone. The reverse has a stylized Starter Kit bag surrounded by the legend “100 francs, soit 15,24 euros, 10 ans du Starter Kit.” The sun and stars motif of the euro cent coins appear to the left of the bag alongside the coin's denomination.
