This is the first issue in a new series called From Clovis to Republic - 1500 years of French history. The series will contain 15 coins over 5 years and highlights French heritage by honoring ten kings, two emperors and three presidents who helped shape the French nation in chronological order.

This inaugural issue features Clovis I (c. 466–511), the first king of the Franks to unite all the Frankish tribes under one ruler, and converted the nation to Catholicism.

Designed by Christian Lacroix, the obverse features an image of Clovis with his Merovingian crown and his name as a semi-circular inscription. The reverse shows the baptism font at Reims cathedral, where Clovis was baptized, a dove, and the span of his reign.
