Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to Andy Warhol, the preeminent artist of the 20th century, with an object under license with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, created for the 25th anniversary of his death.

Andy Warhol had an intuitive relationship with money, which is why the artwork "Dollar Sign" (1981) is used on the coin's obverse in full color. On the reverse, an Andy Warhol self- portrait from 1964 appears with the year dates of his birth and death (1928-1987). In the background is the famous quote "Making money is art".
