Held up against the light, the window will become translucent and show the intricate design in full splendor.
The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, better known as Seville Cathedral, is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Seville, Spain. It is the largest Gothic cathedral and the third-largest cathedral in the world after London’s St Paul’s Cathedral and Rome’s St. Peter’s. Construction of Seville Cathedral took just over a century, spanning from 1402 to 1506. However, the intention and first steps towards building the cathedral can be traced back to 1248, when Seville was conquered by Fernando III of Castile, who is buried there. The cathedral also serves as the burial site of Christopher Columbus.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1987, visitors can appreciate its sheer scale from inside, including its central nave which stands at a grand forty meters high. With its ornate, gold-laden interiors and eighty chapels, the scale of Seville Cathedral alone is quite a sight, coupled with the wealth of architectural influences, including its 75 stunning stained glass windows.
The reverse features a stained glass insert visible from both sides of the coin. The reverse also features an image of the structure seen from the outside, its name as an inscription, as well as a floor plan of the cathedral. The series’ common obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is delivered encapsulated in a jewel case with a Certificate of Authenticity.
