The 2011 Canada Proof Coin Set contains a selectively gold-plated commemorative silver dollar commemorating the 100th anniversary of Parks Canada, combined with the proof version of Canada’s traditional circulation coins, including the rare and prestigious 50-cent coin.
Parks Canada Centennial is featured on the Royal Canadian Mint’s first collector coin of the year. Launched on January 4th, the 2011 Silver Dollar marks the centennial of Parks Canada, the world’s first national parks service.
Designed by Quebec artist Luc Normandin, the rich imagery of this coin evokes Parks Canada's leadership role in conserving and educating about Canada's flora and fauna. Four endangered ecological treasures are cradled in the hands of a young Canadian: a Whooping Crane (Grus americana), the Southern Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum capillus-veneris), a Western Fringed Prairie Orchid (Platanthera praeclara) and a Kentucky Coffee Tree (Gymnocladus dioicus).
The coins are attractively displayed in a stylish folder that allows the coins to be displayed laid flat within
the specially designed base. An informative booklet, which incorporates a Certificate of Authenticity provides insight into the coin backgrounds.
