Issued on November 15, 2005, this issue celebrates the 50th anniversary of the premiere of the great Finnish motion picture "Tuntematon sotilas" (The Unknown Soldier).

Director Edvin Laine based the movie on the eponymous novel written by V. Linna, published in 1954. The subject of the novel was a hard one: the war, seen from the standpoint of ordinary foot-soldiers. However, the realistic and skillful narrative was like a dip in a cleansing spring after the traumatic war and its consequences. The harsh message was - and still is - perceived as a strong anti-war manifesto. Both the book and the movie were enormously successful. The movie has been shown in more than 40 countries. It is the all-time favorite Finnish movie in Finland. Approximately half of the Finnish population watches "The Unknown Soldier" each time it is broadcast on national TV on Independence Day, 6 December.

The obverse features a battlefield trench carved in the pattern of a soldier's face and helmet in profile. The reverse has an embossed uniformed soldier standing at attention, shaped as a filmstrip.
